The role of Project Officer - Professional Development for the Australian Writers’ Guild may be the perfect next step for you. 

The Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) is the professional association representing writers for stage, screen, radio and online and has protected and promoted their creative and professional interests for 60 years.

The AWG’s purpose is to promote the role and recognition of – and rewards for – performance writing in Australian society and culture; to pursue a thriving industry environment; to protect and advance creative rights and opportunities and to promote excellence and improve professional standards, conditions and remuneration. 

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and confident to assist our Professional Development Director with the day-to-day operation of the Guild’s professional development program.

In return you will have the chance to work with highly experienced arts administrators who will help you hone your skills in event management and professional development administration. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the running of member events and competitions, including general member activities and specifically, Professional Development initiatives. They will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Pathways website, and for handling Pathways enquiries.  

We are seeking applications from candidates who have excellent administration skills. They will be forward thinking and proactive in their approach. They will be able to communicate confidently with our members, partners and stakeholders. 

This role will provide the successful applicant with a unique opportunity to develop their skills in event management, arts administration and website maintenance. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assisting in the planning, coordination and running of AWG events with particular emphasis on First Break and Lunch Break.
  •  Assisting in the planning, coordination and running of AWG competitions with primary responsibility for the Monte Miller Awards and the John Hinde Award along with any additional competitions the AWG may run from time to time.
  • Managing the Showcase Judging Panel process including receiving material from members, organising judges, moderating panels and contacting applicants post-assessment.
  • Managing the upkeep of the Pathways website, in consultation with the Professional Development Director including Showcase, First Break and Pathways for Playwrights.
  • Creating and disseminating the monthly Pathways Newsletter using the Mailchimp program.
  • Handling Pathways enquiries.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • A proactive attitude and ability to work across multiple projects when required.
  • The ability to engage with all levels of the member base.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to professionally represent the AWG when dealing with third parties.
  • Event and project management skills, including record-keeping and reporting.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to anticipate needs.
  • Technical skills required for website maintenance.
  • Strong administration skills.

The Australian Writers' Guild offers partial ‘work from home’ arrangements for staff. In this instance, WFH arrangements will be negotiated directly with the Professional Development Director.

The role of Project Officer - Professional Development is part-time (4 days a week, Monday to Thursday).
