2010 VIC Mentorship Program

9 September, 2010

The Australian Writers’ Guild has been generously funded by Film Victoria to run a mentoring scheme in Victoria.
Â
The goal of the AWG VIC Mentorship Program is to provide mentorship for one experienced writer who has credits and experience in one field (e.g. film) but who wishes to move into a different field (e.g. television or theatre). Â
Â
The recipient will be given the opportunity to receive critical analysis and supportive guidance from a mentor who is a professional writer and a member of AWG, and who has reached significant status and levels of achievement in relevant performance writing. They will have a proven ability to communicate, be committed to the process of mentoring, and be open to the needs of writers. Â
Â
The mentor will have empathy for the project, offer conceptual and practical support and criticism, and challenge the mentee in encouraging and supportive ways. Both the mentor and the mentee will be paid an honorarium for their time.
Â
The professional partnering consists of 40 hours of mentoring, which includes face-to-face meetings, telephone conferencing, emails and reading time. The mentoring program will be both formal and informal. Formal in its application process, evaluation and expected outcomes and informal in the nature of the individual relationships formed between mentor and mentee, their preferred method of contact and pedagogical approach. Once the program has commenced, the AWG will monitor the mentorship.
Â
The commencement of the mentorship would be at a time suitable for both mentor and mentee, but would not exceed four weeks from the time of the mentee being informed of their successful application. Â
Â
Applicants must have an existing project to work on with their mentor. The mentorship will need to be completed by July 2011.
