In response to suggestions from our members the AWG is pleased to announce that the AWG Victorian Mentorship is now also open to associate members.

Because of this, we have extended the application deadline to Friday 22 October and have also expanded the criteria to include projects from the applicant’s current field of performance writing.
We also welcome applications from writers who have experience in one field (e.g. theatre) but wish to move into a different field (e.g. television or film).

The recipient will be given the opportunity to receive critical analysis and supportive guidance from a mentor who is a professional writer and a member of AWG, and who has reached significant status and levels of achievement in relevant performance writing. They will have a proven ability to communicate, be committed to the process of mentoring, and be open to the needs of emerging writers.

The mentor will have empathy for the project, offer conceptual and practical support and criticism, and challenge the mentee in encouraging and supportive ways. Both the mentor and the mentee will be paid an honorarium for their time.
The professional partnering consists of 40 hours of mentoring, which includes face-to-face meetings, telephone conferencing, emails and reading time.

The mentoring program will be both formal and informal. Formal in its application process, evaluation and expected outcomes and informal in the nature of the individual relationships formed between mentor and mentee, their preferred method of contact and pedagogical approach. Once the program has commenced, the AWG will monitor the mentorship.

The commencement of the mentorship would be at a time suitable for both mentor and mentee, but would not exceed four weeks from the time of the mentee being informed of their successful application.

Applicants must have an existing project to work on with their mentor. The mentorship will need to be completed by July 2011.At the conclusion of the six month mentorship, it is expected that the recipient will have completed a 1st draft or subsequent draft of their work. Further, both the mentor and mentee will be required to complete an evaluation report for the AWG, in order to assess the effectiveness of the program.

Applicants must be Full or Associate members of the AWG and must include in their application:
