Two winning screenplays to spring Off the Page at Adelaide Film Festival

Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 3.08.27 pmA script about a struggling writer looking for a mysterious author has taken one of the top two prizes in this year’s Off the Page competition run by the Australian Writers’ Guild in partnership with the Adelaide Film Festival and the Media Resource Centre.People like him look Ridiculous in Suits by Sally Hardy will be read live at a special session of the festival, as will In-Box by Ruth Estelle and Pete Monaghan, a television sit-com about a drug dealing dole bludger who is seconded to work in Centrelink - and turns out to be the most efficient worker they’ve ever had.Off the Page is a joint initiative showcasing South Australian writing talent. The winning entries will have their screenplays rehearsed with renowned Adelaide theatre director, Chris Drummond (When the Rain Stops Falling, Night Letters, The Dissolving Self) with actors from the Adelaide College of the Arts. The workshopped scripts will then be read live during the Adelaide Film Festival to the public and invited industry guests.One of the judges said the new Off the Page initiative from the South Australian committee was an exciting pathway for local writers to develop their work and connect with industry.“The winning works were of high quality, and I am sure will be very entertaining,” the judge said. “A huge congratulations to Sally, Ruth and Pete.”The live reading is open to the general public as well as AWG members. All are welcome to attend at the Mercury Cinema in Morphett Street, Adelaide, at 1pm on Saturday 17 October 2015.
