WA: Tele-Navigator Consultation Week

21 February, 2012

Held in conjunction with Screenwest, the week-long Tele-Navigator consultation workshop aims to assist television drama or comedy projects to move from concept development through to broadcaster commissioning. The Tele-Navigator consultation week will run from 7-11 May 2012. The closing date for applications is 5:00pm Monday, 19 March 2012.

The format of Tele-Navigator this year will be very different to previous years. It will be run as a professional story conference concentrating on ideas at a very early stage. Writers, Directors or Producers are eligible to apply individually or as a team. Up to six ideas will be selected for development during the Tele-Navigator consultation week. Ideas at all stages of development will be considered however, the program is designed to develop ideas from the ground up with highly regarded producers.

Possible formats include series, telemovies or mini–series. Animation and children's program ideas are welcome. Following the consultation week participants will be required to submit a well developed bible which will be assessed and substantial development funding will be available to the most competitive projects.

Tele-Navigator is a high-end development process with the involvement of national professional television writers, producers, and network development executives. This year the Producing Mentors will be Tony Ayres, Sue Masters and Sue Taylor. There will also be three Writing Mentors (to be announced in the coming weeks).

The initiative is designed for projects that can be made in Western Australia and would benefit from forthright creative and market interrogation. Tele-Navigator will also enhance skills in the presentation of projects and in building bridges with the domestic and international marketplaces for finance, broadcast and distribution.
