A Successful Start From the Beginning
13 April, 2010
The pilot program for the AWG SA script writing group,
From the Beginning is now underway, with 13 participants at different stages of their writing careers. Projects being developed include romantic comedies, action scripts, social drama, and ideas for a children's television production.
From the Beginning aims to examine participants' work from the perspective of supporting documents. Each month participants examine a different piece of documentation used in the production of a screenplay; ie the story outline, synopsis, character profile, scene card, step outline, treatment, and of course, the script. The first meeting, held in March, involved introductions and a verbal précis of everyone's projects. Participants then selected a topic or two each, for which they will produce a piece of work for discussion during the coming months.
While some people are just starting their writing journey it's great to see writers who have drafted scripts willing to revisit their projects through the development of supporting documents. Hopefully the production of this material will not only contribute to the further development of the project itself, but help to secure other creative team members and project support.
From the Beginning is facilitated by AWG committee members Ruth Estelle and Stuart Sturgess.
