The Productivity Commission has been asked to undertake a 12-month public inquiry into Australia's intellectual property system. In undertaking this inquiry, the Commission will consider whether current arrangements provide an appropriate balance between access to ideas and products, and encouraging innovation, investment and the production of creative works. The Inquiry is due to report in August 2016. While submission and consultation dates have not yet been announced, both will be undertaken as part of the inquiry. The Terms of Reference are now available on the Productivity Commission website.[1] The Australian Writers’ Guild acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future traditional custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
