AWG member Jed Malone’s debut feature film has brought home a number of awards and other accolades from the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema in the United States.Her film The 33rd Wedding won the Honorable Mention Best Film award. It also picked up the Producers Choice nomination for Best Feature Film as well as a nomination for the Mary Austin Best Producer - which is the festival award for best female producer.The film was also nominated for Best Editing and Best Ensemble Cast, which included Home and Away actor Gary Brun, Theatresports veteran Steve Lynch and Australian entertainment figure Richard Wilkins.The IIFC calls itself “The Biggest Little Film Festival on Earth” and The Hollywood Reporter has described it as a mini-Sundance.Jed said: “We made the film for about twenty-five thousand Aussie dollars, so it’s a real credit to the whole team, including all those who made sandwiches, held booms and ironed costumes. Truly, the ironing was amazing; in an ideal world we’d also be up for Best Ironing.”Previously, she was a national finalist in the Triple J Raw Comedy awards and worked in TV comedy and theatre prior to screenwriting.The Australian Writers’ Guild acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future traditional custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
