Australian Writers’ Guild members are being asked to contribute to a submission the AWG is making to a Senate inquiry on the federal government’s funding of the arts.
The Senate Inquiry will assess the impact of the 2014 and 2015 Commonwealth Budget decisions on the arts, cuts to Arts Council funding and the government’s decision to use the money on a National Programme for Excellence in the Arts, to be run out of Senator George Brandis’s Arts Ministry. A full version of the inquiry Terms of Reference can be found here[OB1] .
The AWG has already announced a survey of its playwright members to find innovative ways of coping with the cuts and the dramatic shift in the way the arts will be funded and will be making a submission to the Senate inquiry.
AWG members are urged to contribute to the Guild’s submission and/or make their own submissions directly to the Inquiry.
To contribute to the AWG submission, members should email admin@awg.com.au with Senate Inquiry as the subject line.
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA), in association with ArtsPeak, has provided information on how to make your own submission, as well as submission examples. These resources can be found here[OB2] .
Submissions to the Inquiry close on 17 July 2015.
