Australian screenwriter Tim Pye has been elected to an international body representing writers and directors around the world, Writers & Directors Worldwide (WDW).Tim, an award-winning writer and producer of some of Australia’s most popular and critically acclaimed television series, mini series and telemovies, has been elected to the Executive Committee of Writers & Directors Worldwide in his capacity as Chairman of the Australian Writers’ Guild Authorship Collecting Society (AWGACS).His election at the WDW Conference in Beijing marks the first time an Australian writer has sat on the organisation’s ruling council and coincides with WDW’s first ever meeting in the Asia Pacific region.Writers & Directors Worldwide is “an umbrella organisation that provides a cooperation, networking and support forum for dramatic, literary and audiovisual creators in all regions of the world”.AWG executive director Jacqueline Elaine says Tim’s election reflects both the respect he and AWGACS enjoys internationally and his commitment to supporting the campaign for Australian and New Zealand authors’ rights to fair remuneration in the Asia Pacific. The Australian Writers’ Guild acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future traditional custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
