The Australian Writers' Guild congratulates long-standing AWG member Tony McNamara on his Best Original Screenplay Academy Award nomination yesterday for surprise box-office smash, The Favourite.
Co-written by Deborah Davis, The Favourite has already enjoyed substantial international critical success, including a series of Oscar nominations last night. The Oscar nomination has come off the back of nominations for the Golden Globes, a Best Screenplay nod for the BAFTA Awards which will be announced 11 February 2019 and taking out the 8th AACTA International Award for Best Screenplay.
Tony has been a member of the AWG for more than 20 years and has written for a number of shows that have shaped Australian television, including The Secret Life of Us, Love My Way, Tangle, Puberty Blues, and more recently Doctor Doctor.
The 91st Academy Awards are announced 25 February 2019, from 12 pm AEDT.
