AWG empowering young screenwriters

The Australian Writer’s Guild (AWG) will be providing one of the highlights at the forthcoming Youth Media Festival in Melbourne.

Together with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), the AWG is presenting an industry panel for aspiring and emerging screenwriters - Writing for Screen: Finding your Place.

The panel will be addressing questions such as how to get your break in a rapidly changing landscape with audiences increasingly spread over a diverse range of media – across screens large, small and interactive. It will be headed by leading multi-platform writer, Mike Jones, and internationally credited television drama writer, Peter Mattessi.

Mike Jones is a writer and script editor working across screen, page and interactive media and lecturer in story and writing at the AFTRS. Most recently he wrote the virtual-reality detective-thriller ‘VRNoir: A Day Before the Night’ with StartVR, and previously led story development for award-winning multi-platform company, Portal Entertainment UK.

Peter Mattessi has written television drama such as Eastenders, Waterloo Road and Holby City in the UK, while in Australia he has written for all the soaps, currently writes for Neighbours, and has written children’s shows Worst Year of My Life Again and Specky Magee.
