Black Water: Abyss is the new nail-biting sequel to the breakout killer croc thriller Black Water and AWG Queensland has managed to capture two of its key creatives, co-writer Sarah Smith and director Andrew Traucki, for an incisive and insightful look at the creative process of writing and making genre films, particularly that rare creature in Australian cinema – the sequel. 

Join Sarah and Andrew as they discuss their careers and creative process with AWG Queensland and genre screenwriter Shayne Armstrong. 

Discussion followed by audience Q&A.

Sarah Smith is one of Australia’s most experienced and in-demand drama writers and producers. She has created, written, script produced and produced some of Australia’s most loved and highest rating television drama including Bite Club, Love Child, Bloom, House of Bond, The Killing Field, Winter, Wild Boys, Rescue Special Ops, Wanted, The Alice, All Saints, McLeod’s Daughters, Canal Road, Sea Patrol, and Wonderland. Sarah co-wrote the psychological feature Nerve and is co-writer and producer of the thriller The Girl Beneath which has been announced, and co-writer of Black Water: Abyss with Ian Ridley. 

Andrew Traucki is one of Australia’s premier horror and thriller directors and writers and the undisputed king of the Oz creature feature, having written and directed Black Water, The Reef, The Jungle and of course directed Black Water: Abyss  as well as a segment of the international horror anthology feature The ABC's of Death. Andrew also co-wrote and co-directed the cult sci-fi TV series Rocky Starr for SBS.
